MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

Dear Friends,

As we prepare for the DuraSpace Member Summit which will be held April 10-11 in San Diego prior to the CNI Spring Member Meeting we have several exciting initiatives to tell you about.

We are in the process of ensuring that the data in the DuraSpace Registrya community driven database that identifies which institutions and organizations around the world use DSpace, Fedora, and VIVO, is current. In 2018 there are more than 2,900 installations registered worldwide. We need your help to update this valuable tool to learn who is using what software, how they are using it, and how their use case may be similar to yours. Please take a moment to see if your organization’s repository or VIVO installation is listed on the registry. If not, let us know that you are using DSpace, Fedora or VIVO by sharing information about the software you’re using through our registry.  If you find your information is outdated, please use the email link provided at the bottom of your registry entry to tell us what’s new or contact Kristi Searle to update your information. DSpace Developer Show and Tell Meetings are a new type of community meeting that showcases what DSpace Developers are up to and gives developers an opportunity to share tools, processes and recent work with everyone in the DSpace community (Read more).

We are pleased to announce that the California Digital Library (CDL) and DuraSpace are collaborating to build an open, international community around Archival Resource Keys (ARKs) and their use as persistent identifiers in the open scholarly ecosystem. Learn more about the ARKs in the Open Project in recent project updates:http://duraspace.org/news/arks-open-project-update-1http://duraspace.org/articles/3377

DuraSpace has launched its 2018 webinars program. Workshop webinars will be offered free of charge each month focused on applied use of our open source technologies. Workshop webinar slides and recordings are available after each presentation. In February David Wilcox presented  "Getting Started with Fedora." This presentation provided an overview of the software and basic concepts, examples of deployments, and an overview and demonstration of the core and extended features. Slides and recording available: http://duraspace.org/articles/3371. Terry Brady, Georgetown University Library, will offer DSpace users and potential users a simple introduction to the customization process during an April 24 webinar, "Making DSpace Your Own". On March 28 Erin Tripp will present Open Source Repository Upgrades: Top Advice from Practitioners. Erin will summarize advice gathered from a DuraSpace upgrade and migration survey project undertaken in fall 2017 so participants can benefit from the experience of their peers and plan for the best possible migration outcome (Read more).

DuraSpace is managing a pilot led by Research Graph and VIVO aimed at collecting, augmenting, and making discoverable patterns of faculty collaboration and research outputs (Read more).

We are excited to be co-hosting the first DuraSpace-euroCRIS Interoperability Event with our Strategic Partner euroCRIS. The DSpace and CRIS Systems one-day Workshop will focus on interoperability between DSpace repositories and CRIS systems in advance of the CRIS 2018 Conference in Umeå, Sweden - on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.

During the DSpace and CRIS systems workshop, DSpace users will have a great opportunity to meet to identify existing examples of integration between DSpace and CRIS systems and to discuss functionalities that DSpace could implement in the future in order to support workflows traditionally associated with Research Information Systems more effectively.

Members of the DSpace community are encouraged to send their workshop proposal using this form.

We take this opportunity to remind you about the deadline for CRIS2018 Conference submissions -- please feel free to submit your contributions at http://www.cris2018.se/cfp/ until Mon Mar 19th 2018 at midnight CET.

With many thanks for your support and participation.

Warm regards,

Debra Hanken Kurtz

CEO
