Contribute to the DSpace Development Fund

She logs in to the repository and clicks submit an item. She has the DOI for the article so she enters that and the metadata is automatically populated. She selects an embargo period on the same screen, and drags and drops the file into the repository, selects an appropriate license, and clicks submit. She gets a review screen that allows her to correct any errors and then confirms the submission. She is told what the persistent identifier is, and can then either view the item or add another item. She receives an email with a confirmation of the deposit and the identifier. Sally has a technical report that she wants to submit into a specific collection in the repository. She goes to that collection and clicks submit item after logging in. She sees a single submission screen. Because this is a series some information is already filled in for her, so she quickly fills out the needed information (already designated), drags and drops the file, selects an appropriate license and clicks submit. She gets a review screen that allows her to correct any errors and then confirms the submission. She is told what the persistent identifier is, and can then either view the item or add another item. She receives an email with a confirmation of the deposit and the identifier. Sally has several datasets that she wants to submit to a collection in the repository. She goes to that collection and clicks submit item after logging in. She sees a single submission screen. She quickly fills out the needed information, drags and drops the files, selects an appropriate license and clicks submit. She gets a review screen that allows her to correct any errors. She decides she needs to reorder the files and does so in the review screen. She then clicks submit to finish the deposit. She is told what the persistent identifier is, and can then either view the item or add another item. She receives an email with a confirmation of the deposit and the identifier. During the DCAT call on end-user usecases, it was mentioned by Kim Shepherd that libraries are available to do pretty good extraction of metadata.
This could potentially extend the usecase with a story paragraph in which Sally uploads a file, and sees basic metadata being extracted from the file before she proceeds with correcting/enhancing the automatically generated metadata

Another enhancement to the user deposit interface would be if we could have proper selection features for the embargo date, rather than a free text field, so that users cannot enter the date in the wrong format. This happened to one of my depositors recently - not that surprising, considering the yyyy-mm-dd format is less familiar over here in the UK, and therefore probably not expected. It caused a delay in the submission, as the user contacted me to ask why the date was not being accepted, and I had to check with her exactly what string she had entered. So a simple change here would have a real benefit for us. Even I find I have to stop and think carefully about entering that date in that format when I'm creating test entries - so it'd make my life a wee bit easier just in that respect.

This use case is also loosely related to Admin UI - Aids and tooltips in the UI , in that adding additional aids/tooltips to the Deposit UI would help make it more intuitive overall.
