Minutes
Leadership meeting at CNI:
- Afternoon agenda is left open to enable us to determine the best use of that time.
- Each Vision and Strategy subgroup should fill out their section of the Pre Meeting Report prior to the meeting, in order to make efficient use of time at the meeting.
- (Each committee discussed their level of readiness to contribute to the document)
Matching Funds Challenge
- In order to help make up the funding shortfall, Michigan is offering a matching challenge.
- Action Item: Maurice to send out an email to Fedora Leadership with details of the challenge.
Technical Update
- Focus has been to tie up lose ends in order to be able to have a release candidate. Should have a candidate late this week or early next week. The community will have 3 weeks to review. Goal of having a finished release in late November.
- Current state of documentation is up to date, and is ready to support people who wish to do testing.
- 18 pull requests incorporated. 1 more outstanding.
2019 Spring Fedora Camp
- David Wilcox is looking for a host for the Spring Fedora camp. Ideally an underserved region. This would likely be in North America.
- This will have a newer curriculum, incorporating the 5.0 release.
- If anyone has thoughts, please contact David Wilcox.
Roundtable
Robin: An open source community takes a village. Fedora is an example of such a community with early adopters, and long term mature adopters.
Ben: Two developers have been involved in the recent sprints, and they plan to do testing on the upcoming release candidate. They are deciding on their next moves. They had decided to move forward with Samvera. However, with changes in governance and the Samvera roadmap, they are putting that effort on pause while they assess the roadmaps of Samvera and Fedora, and what works best for his institution.
Este: Have been deciding what to do next with their systems. Had been wanting to get involved in a community, and have decided to move ahead with Islandora. Lots of planning and research has been involved, and they feel confident with their decision. Initial deployment will be on Islandora 7 and Fedora 3. Will jump to CLAW when it is a more complete/mature product. The mature community around Islandora was key in convincing them of their choice. Goal is to be on Islandora by summer. https://digitalcollections.wordpress.amherst.edu/2018/10/12/no-college-is-an-island-amherst-college-chooses-islandora/
Julie: In the last stages of migrating IR content to Hyrax, and hope to go live with that soon. Looking forward to Fedora 5. Will implement Fedora 5 when it is ready. Planning a migration away from ContentDM. No product selected just yet.
Dustin: UT Austin implemented Islandora 7.X earlier this year. Continue to add features and scale the infrastructure. A Mellon Grant is being employed to install CLAW. UT Austin will be the host of the SCSFUG meeting in January. South Central States Fedora Users Group Meeting: 16-17 January 2019
Aaron B: Next week will be the first wide release of faculty using their system. Will be presenting a talk at CNI about their system. They are planning an internal pilot of CLAW.
Mark: Working on a fixity service for Islandora. https://github.com/mjordan/riprap Contact Mark for more information. Should be production ready by the end of the year.
Daniel L: Has a migration tool for Islandora to migrate data from 7.X to CLAW.
