Updates

  • Weill Cornell – 1) Working on translating XML data to VIVO schema for one of our CTSC partners. Tried various methods and Harvester xsl seems to be the easiest. 2) Working on mapping clinical data (e.g. board certification, clinical expertise etc) to VIVO.

Notable Development List Traffic

  • Mark Fallu from Griffith posted about the Palo ETL tool (extract transform and load) http://sourceforge.net/projects/palo-etl-server/, which has native support for RDF as an output type
    • We found that while it was manageable to use xslt for a single well defined source, if we were doing a wide variety of mappings from a wide variety of sources the overhead soon became annoying. As an added benefits: - large scale ingests (eg. 40K+ publication records were ingested far faster using the ETL tool; it will also allow us to take the processing of data to be ingested off the production web server); easier integration with data access via web services etc. will make supporting the ongoing ingest of data over time easier for the IT support systems of the uni (via change management processes etc)
  • Date formatting problem – Ian Boston made the Freemarker template a bit more tolerant in its date processing – plus has a post on a VIVO Harvester for Symplectic Elements his blog at http://blog.tfd.co.uk/
  • Harvesting image blobs from Oracle
