Please add additional agenda items or updates --

Jon Corson-Rikert will be leading this week's call.

Updates

  • Brown (ted) – upgraded dev instance to 1.5.1 smoothly; have been testing institutional sign on via Shibboleth and seems to take people to their profile successfully
  • Colorado (Stephen and Alex) – about 3/4 of the way there in updating old ingest scripts to work with 1.5.1; want to put in place a SPARQL endpoint for the Lab for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) to pull data out of the CU VIVO for use at the department/center level
  • Cornell (Jim, Huda, and Tim) – completed major data update of all faculty reporting data. Getting to know Git and trying various tools
  • Duke (Richard) – have a policy question about the source of photos – whether to use the campus id card database or allow people to upload different pictures
  • EPA (Dave) – ingest moving along but have delayed internal VIVO release for a couple months due to other project work. Have just gotten direct access to a central Oracle database for ingest instead of having to work with CSV files and that should help. Goal is to have a public VIVO at some point in the future – ~end of 2013 – but will be internal to the EPA at first.
  • Florida
  • Indiana
  • Johns Hopkins (Josh) – 'central IT now involved in implementing VIVO; researching implementing the harvester and getting an error in the scoring and would appreciate help from someone who has used that part of the Harvester.
  • Penn
  • UCSF (Eric) – getting ready for presentations on OpenSocial at the upcoming CTSA Key Function Committee meeting
  • NYU and Weill, post Sandy – no word this week. We hope they had no damage from the storm.

The Move to Git/GitHub

Report on the move of the VIVO source code repository from Subversion on SourceForge to Git on Github Monday night.

  • what is different
  • suggestions for tools – Jim is trying the Eclipse Git plugin; Colorado is using GitFlow; the Atlassian SourceTree tool may be useful
    • Eric – there's lots of tools but he usually falls back to the command line, as the tools are often flaky
  • reading resources – please add any you know of here:

Notable Development List Traffic

  • Adding additional vocabulary sources (Stephen) – UMLS not that useful at Colorado because the Med School is not on the main campus. Gemet seems to general; inclined to look at LCSH first since the FAST endpoint is still experimental
    • not sure how much has to be implemented in VIVO if a SPARQL endpoint is online or data are accessible via linked open data requests – VIVO expects a search capability, where the user's desired term is matched against the terms in the vocabulary and one or more candidate terms are returned, ideally with definitions and any available broader or narrower terms.
  • Any updates on last week's open questions – it was suggested that we re-post questions that have not been answered. If we make a Jira issue comments and the resolution can be tracked there.
