Background

SAML identity providers authenticate users and identify their user types to grant different levels of access rights to VIVO. By integrating VIVO with certain SAML identity providers, it would enable easy set up of single sign on for the system administrator.

Priority or staging considerations

VIVO currently supports kerberos, shibboleth, and CAS (Notre Dame's implementation). The American Psychological Assocation (http://vivo.apa.org) is active in becoming a member of InCommon in part so they can use VIVO for authors from their 38 journals to log in and claim or annotate publications, using their home university credentials.
