User types involved

Narrative User Story (for sharing/review/voting)

An administrative user should be able to extract data along common facets and dimensions for use in generating administrative reports.

Background

Some examples of the dimensions or facets that would potentially be useful for administrators:

  • Grants/activities for a particular funding agency
  • Grants/publications matching a particular keyword
  • Grants/activities above/below a particular dollar amount
  • Grants/activities/publications/classes/events in a certain time range
  • Grants/activities/publications/classes/events of a particular group/department/college

Technical considerations

Because implementing a full BI toolset seems unlikely, the technical goal should be to provide a robust interface for selecting data from within VIVO, and extraction to common formats (such as Excel) for use in other tools.

Priority or staging considerations

This is a very open ended and complex request, so an alternative may be to provide connectors or integration tools to connect VIVO with common BI or reporting tools (Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Microsoft Reporting Services, Cognos, etc.).

This work has been targeted for VIVO 1.6 through the "Report generation" component
