The Fedora project understands the importance of providing platform stability, while also allowing for improvements and bug fixes to be released as often as necessary. This policy defines the project's commitment meeting both of those needs.

As of the 5.0.0 release, Fedora conforms to standard Semantic Versioning: https://semver.org/:

Given a version number MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH:

  1. MAJOR versions represents incompatible API changes or data migrations,
  2. MINOR versions represent added functionality in a backwards-compatible manner, and
  3. PATCH versions represent backwards-compatible bug fixes.

The Fedora project may produce as many minor and patch releases as necessary throughout the year. Minor and patch releases are by definition backwards-compatible and therefore are able to be drop-in upgrades that require no change to client code nor any data migration.xxx
