Eligibility to serve in Fedora Governance  Each DuraSpace project has a governance model. This representative, community-based model includes several governing groups with various levels of responsibility (identifying project strategic direction, setting project roadmap, establishing project budget, etc.). Eligibility to serve in project governance is determined by participation in the DuraSpace Membership ProgramFedora Membership program, or active community involvement, incrementally enabling member organizations who have made the greatest commitments (both financial or in-kind staff commitments) to the project. It is NOT TOO LATE to become a Member and participate in the Fedora project governance! For more information on how to become a Member visit: https://www.lyrasis.org/membership/Pages/duraspace-membership.aspx. Historically, Fedora Governance was divided into 2 groups:

  • Fedora Leadership
  • Fedora Steering

Each group was responsible for a different set of priorities and initiatives and would come together quarterly to discuss high-level items. In 2022, the sitting Fedora Steering Group voted to combine Steering and Leadership groups into one combined Governance Group to help encourage engagement and offer more opportunities for participation in decision-making processes. Each governance election cycle, the sitting Governance group re-evaluates this decision based on current Governance activity.

Currently, the Fedora program is operating with a combined Governance Group.
