Discuss Data Model of the early prototype of Configurable Entities

Concentrate discussion on the first two sections ("Configuration of the entity types and their relations" and "Java API") of the prototype documentation at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wEmHirFzrY3qgGtRr2YBQwGOvH1IuTVGmxDIdnqvwxM/edit

Discussion may also touch on other sections where they relate to data model.

(Prior to meeting, please add any comments/questions/concerns into the Google Document itself. These comments will drive this discussion.)

Some larger questions (as of Sept 10):

  • Storing entity relationships in existing DSpace authority control framework versus in new "relationship" and "relationship_type" tables. (Andrea B - detailed document here)
  • Bi-directional relationships really necessary (in "relationship" table)? Retrieve inverse relationship from Solr (instead of DB)? (Andrea B)
  • Storing entity "type" in the "item" table (instead of in the metadata)? (Pascal B)
  • Minting Handles/DOIs for all Entities? (Pascal B)
  • Collections per Entity type. Several folks had questions about this
    • No formal relationship between Collection & Entity Type
    • A Collection's template can be used to enable a custom input form per entity. Or you could use existing type-bind input forms to customize per entity.
