Who supports the DSpace software platform?

The success of any open-source project lies with the community contributing its collective energy, knowledge, enthusiasm, and effort. DSpace is developed and supported by the user community, with the help and guidance of DuraSpace. DuraSpace is a not-for-profit organization formed in July 2009. The organizations which supported the DSpace project previously, the DSpace Foundation (2007-2009) and the DSpace Federation (2003-2004) have ceased operation. To learn more about DuraSpace, please visit www.DuraSpace.org.The DSpace Foundationis a non-profit organization that will provide support to the growing community of organizations that use DSpace. The foundation will assume responsibility for providing leadership and support to the ever-growing DSpace community and promote even wider distribution and use. We encourage all organizations using DSpace to join the DSpace Community. Michele Kimpton, formerly of the Internet Archive (http://www.archive.org/) is the Executive Director of the newly formed DSpace Foundation. The DSpace Federation Projectwas a grant-funded research project from 2003-04 to study the adaptability of DSpace to organizations with varied needs. Funded by grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Cambridge-MIT Institute, this one-year study began the process of building a collaborative federation of institutions running DSpace. See the DSpace Federation Report.  Note that the DSpace name is trademarked by MIT to prevent any commercialization of the system using that name, but institutions running DSpace are free to rename the system on their user interface.
