Meeting Schedule and Attendance

DSpace Developer meetings are a time when Committers and interested Developers can discuss new software features, upcoming releases of DSpace software, and generally plan out the roadmap of DSpace. All meetings are public. We welcome anyone and everyone to attend, speak their opinions or just listen in on the discussions. Please note that we archive all discussions (see Meeting Archives), as a service for those who are unable to attend.

DSpace Developer meetings take place on the following schedule:

  • Every Wednesday at 20:00 UTC/GMT in #duraspace IRC channel
  • All meetings are held for 1 hour (although, admittedly, discussion sometimes extends beyond that)

See the world clock to determine the meeting time where you live.

Meeting topics often include:

  • Recent updates on upcoming DSpace releases, bug fixes or features
  • Reviewing of recent reported issues/bugs/feature requests (see JIRA Cleanup Sessions for more info)
  • Occasionally we vote or make decisions on upcoming DSpace technology plans/roadmap (see Developer Voting Procedures for more info)

If you are unable to attend a meeting, please feel free to add your own notes/comments to the meeting's wiki page.

Developers Meeting on Weds, August 4, 2010

Agenda

  • Any Announcements / Additional Agenda Items?
  • DSpace Global Outreach Committee (DGOC) updates
    1. Have moved all their meeting notes to the Wiki: DSpace Global Outreach Cmte
    2. They will be keeping an eye on, and reviewing "New Features" listed in JIRA
      • Will try to help add details/requirements for any new feature requests that need more details added.
      • Will also be encouraged to add new feature requests (with requirements) into JIRA for a developer to pick up and work on.
    3. DGOC Potential "Quick Win" features for 1.7 or 1.8? See their Feature requests - distilled page
      • The feature ideas came from the DGOC group. Val & Tim helped distill this list down from a larger list. None of these features are suggested as being definite for DSpace 1.7 (or even 1.8). But, if there's a feature that is of interest to you, feel free to "claim" it in JIRA.
  • DuraCloud Pilot Program Updates (and DSpace integration work)
    • FYI: DuraCloud project is starting a broader pilot program in Sept. They are looking for basic "integrations" between DuraCloud & DSpace.
    • Therefore, some DSpace-based early adopters will be looking to use a "very early, pre-alpha" version of 1.7 (essentially mostly with the AIP Backup and Restore functionality in place).
    • Tim will be tagging a "duracloud pilot" release of DSpace in early Sept specifically for this pilot group. They will be warned that it is essentially an unstable, very early version of 1.7 (which likely will also be missing many eventual 1.7 features).
  • GSoC Projects wrapping up
    • Unit Testing Framework voted last week to be added to DSpace 1.7
    • What about REST API – can we come to a consensus?
  • DSpace 1.7 Features/Updates
    • Tentative Features List: DSpace Release 1.7.0 Notes – Our "self imposed" deadline was to finalize major features by mid-August
      • Any updates needed? – Let Peter Dietz know if you have a new feature to consider, or if a feature listed there is definitely out-of-scope.
    • AIP Backup and Restore is being prepared for addition to Trunk in near future (next few weeks)
      • Will post a "patch" detailing major changes, most significant changes to Crosswalks/Packagers (beyond that, tried to keep changes minimal)
  • JIRA Catch-Up – starting with issue DS-533 (and getting as far as we can).

Meeting Notes

Global Outreach Committee Updates, DuraCloud pilot updates, GSoC is wrapping up, 1.7 Features Discussion

  • Updates on what DSpace Global Outreach Committee is up to, and how they'd like to start working more with developers/committers (see agenda above for the details)
  • Updates on DuraCloud pilot – they will be using an 'early version' of DSpace 1.7 for pilot testing (it will be tagged specially for the pilot)
  • GSoC is wrapping up.
    • Do we want to add REST API to trunk for 1.7?
      • Concerns about Authentication & Authorization in REST API – how does it do it? (Update: now detailed on REST API wiki page)
  • DSpace 1.7 Features list updates
    • Unit Testing to go into Trunk soon (Is now on Trunk as of Aug 10)
    • AIP Backup and Restore is being prepared for addition to Trunk in near future
    • richardrodgers: Looks like curation can launch with 3-4 services: virus checking, checksumming, replication (to cloud), and may some 'micro-services' (from CDL)
  • @TODO: Need to catch up on JIRA – will start pushing JIRA to the front of meetings, so that we can catch up on what needs fixed for DSpace 1.7
