Meeting Schedule and Attendance

DSpace Developer meetings are a time when Committers and interested Developers can discuss new software features, upcoming releases of DSpace software, and generally plan out the roadmap of DSpace. All meetings are public. We welcome anyone and everyone to attend, speak their opinions or just listen in on the discussions. Please note that we archive all discussions (see Meeting Archives), as a service for those who are unable to attend.

DSpace Developer meetings take place on the following schedule:

  • Every Wednesday at 20:00 UTC in #duraspace IRC channel
  • All meetings are held for 1 hour (although, admittedly, discussion sometimes extends beyond that)

See the world clock to determine the meeting time where you live. If you are unsure how to connect to IRC, see our list of IRC Resources & Clients

This meeting schedule is also available via the DuraSpace Public Events Calendar (iCal, RSS Feed).

Meeting topics often include:

  • Recent updates on upcoming DSpace releases, bug fixes or features
  • Reviewing of recent reported issues/bugs/feature requests (see JIRA Cleanup Sessions for more info)
  • Occasionally we vote or make decisions on upcoming DSpace technology plans/roadmap (see Developer Voting Procedures for more info)

If you are unable to attend a meeting, please feel free to add your own notes/comments to the meeting's wiki page.

Developers Meeting on Weds, February 8, 2012

Agenda

Regular Items

  1. JIRA Catch-Up – starting with issue DS-943

Discussion Topics

  1. Quick Announcement: DuraSpace's Bamboo server may be offline tomorrow & Friday. We're working to migrate over to latest version.
  2. Tim's proposal for a (small?) 1.8.2 Release. Unfortunately discovered several annoying issues in AIP Backup & Restore that could use fixing:
  3. Thoughts on a "DSpace Developers Virtual Summit" Week? (potential weeks include Feb 20-24, Feb 27-Mar 2)
    • Summit would consist of a daily video/voice chat meeting (1-2 hrs likely, via Google+?) between developers/committers
    • Open format discussion, but seeded with a few larger/provocative questions
      • Example question: "How do we move the DSpace API forward to better support multiple UIs, potential new UI development, & avoid UI logic duplication?"
    • Tim would attend each day, but rest of folks would likely be rotating in/out based on their schedules (limit of 10 simultaneous attendees, based on Google+ limitations).
    • Each day we'd publicly post (to dspace-devel list) a summary of that day's discussions. This would allow others to provide comments/feedback & to encourage others to join in following days
    • At end of summit, if things went well, it may or may not be followed up by a "Virtual Hack-a-thon" (week or two) to rapidly prototype/build any new projects that were brainstormed.
  4. Google Summer of Code 2012 - Begin to think about possible GSoC DSpace Project Ideas. Also, think about whether you'd be willing to mentor a student project (of your choice, obviously).
  5. Other topics?

Additional Ongoing Topics

  1. Brainstorming Features/Changes for 3.0. Can we work towards development teams around any of these projects?
