Suggested Topics: (If you have another topic, please add and call attendees can decide what to cover)

  • Welcome and Introductions
  • How to Submit GitHub Tickets (Holger Lenz, Lyrasis)
    • Preferred way of submitting bugs - submit bugs if issue requires developer assistance
    • Wiki page for bug submission:
    • Go to: github.com/DSpace
      • Select category (dspace-angular is the most popular option)
      • Select Issue
      • Select New Issue
      • Select type of issue (Bug report, Feature request, Report a security vulnerability)
      • Create issue
        • Add title
        • Complete description (follow along with the prompts)
        • Include screenshots, other documentation needed to reproduce/document the bug
        • No need to complete the right menu fields (developers will add labels, etc)
    • What happens with issue reports?
      • Tim Donohue will review, prioritize, and assign
      • "help wanted" label indicates less severe issues - can be claimed by community
      • If you submit, you will not be "attached" to the bug (ie you will not be considered an expert about the issue)

  • Testathon Feedback
    • Were you able to participate in testing?
      • Participants: Peter Sutton-Long, Holger Lenz, Emilio Lorenzo, Pierre Lasou
    • How was your experience? / How could we improve the testathon in the future?
      • Peter Sutton-Long
        • Test plan was extensive
        • Everyone sharing the same spreadsheet may not have been as useful because it was hard to determine which parts of the test plan had already been tested. Would prefer a way to ensure that everything was adequately tested
        • Problems with entity submission forms (missing??) in test instance - needed to use docker
        • More guidance on how to report bugs
        • Would have liked a mechanism for immediate feedback on process
        • Could not have done it without Tim Donohue's help
          • Difficulties with installing Docker
      • Holger Lenz (non-technical user)
        • Also could not have done testing without Tim's help (difficulties with installing Docker)
          • Some steps missing in Docker installation documentation
      • Emilio Lorenzo
        • Hard to test elements: ORCID integration, notification protocol
        • Concerned that additional layers of complexity have been added in recent upgrades - harder for smaller/less resourced institutions to implement (# of installation questions in google groups has increased)
      • Pierre Lasou
        • Enjoyed the testathon experience (Kimberley's daily meetings created a sense of community), but can be improved for future
        • Future testathons needs to be better structured
        • Spreadsheet concerns - worried about erasing data (updates wrote over someone else's data)
        • Notes that Tim Donohue asked developers to do new tests for features (ORCID, notify features, etc) after testathon
          • Additional tests were done quickly, not extensively
          • One of the vendors/developers for one of the additional features also tested - should be another person as coders should not also test
        • Many bugs found - insufficient time to address. Unsure whether DSpace 8 can be delivered on time
          • Trouble with installing Docker
        • Tried to improve documentation
  • Open Repositories Conference
    • Opportunity to share your attendance plans/ if you are presenting, tell us what your presentation is about
      • Emilio will be attending, not presenting (busy with DSpace integration)
      • Kent Gerber- University of Minnesota Libraries will be represented by manager
  • North American User Group Meeting - CFP Closes May 24

Other notes

DSpace 8 launch postponed to June 3
