Hello Frode -

I am the CEO at DuraSpace, a not-for-profit that stewards the open source software projects DSpace, Fedora and VIVO. We are gathering information about various consortia around the world that use DSpace and are excited to learn that BIBSYS and its member institutions have adopted the software to house a variety of repositories in Norway. BIBSYS and it’s member institutions, the major universities in Norway, have made a significant investment in DSpace! We are greatly impressed by the large number of items deposited in the BIBSYS DSpace repository and in the diverse repositories of its members. I am interested to learn more about BIBSYS and how the larger DSpace community might best engage with you and your members.

In order to deliver on our plans to help improve the software and to continue to collaborate on strategic initiatives, we need your financial support to make the following efforts possible:
  • Develop and design an out-of-the-box user interface for DSpace
  • Advance progress on milestones documented in the DSpace Roadmap
  • Increase participation of global DSpace users by partnering with international projects and organizations

As you may be aware, the DSpace community has big plans for improving the software and we need financial support from all institutions, worldwide, who currently use DSpace. There has been a lot of work put into a detailed roadmap that lays out the development priorities going forward. One of the key benefits of membership is that members get a voice in DSpace project governance, helping to determine the future of the software and to prioritize the efforts of the community. We are eager to build relationships with adopters beyond North America to ensure your needs are met and to learn from your expeerience. While we don’t currently have a consortia membership, we would be very interested in finding a way to make sure BIBSYS has a role in governance, so that your ideas about what DSpace should be in the future can be included in the roadmap.

Is there a time in the next couple of weeks when Jonathan Markow, our Chief Strategy Officer (cc’d) and I can speak with you about BIBSYS and how we can involve you in the DSpace community?
I look forward to speaking with you!
