Instructions

  1. Install Islandora 2.0

There are a variety of ways to install Islandora 2.0, but a best-practice recommended by the Islandora developer community is to use ISLE, which is Islandora for Enterprise. It is a packaged, Docker-based version of the software that can be installed as a bundle rather than installing all the components individually. This makes the installation easier to manage and upgrade in the future. ISLE is generally recommended unless you have a good reason not to use it.

ISLE can be installed in both local and cloud environments. To install, follow instructions detailed in the ISLE documentation.

  2. Configure server environment
    Example: Whitman College’s Server Specifications

  3. Install and install a migration tool

There are a few different community-supported migration tools available. The most common include:

Based on the current level of documentation, community support, features, and extensibility, we recommend using Islandora Workbench for most use cases.

  4. Configure your migration tool

If you have selected Islandora Workbench as your migration tool, follow this documentation on configuration.

Example: Whitman College Migration Process Documentation

Next Steps:

Before the actual migration, it is highly recommended to conduct a practice run with a sample of your data to help identify and resolve potential issues with the data or with configurations.
