Apps Contest and Linked Data Contest.  Do you have an application that uses VIVO data?  Do you have a set of linked data that you can share?  The VIVO Conference is holding its annual Application Contest and Linked Data Contest.  You will receive an email this week with instructions for applying.  Applications will be due August 1.  It's easy to apply.  Winners will be recognized in the program and recognized in OpenVIVO!

VIVO and Vitro 1.9 release candidates available.  VIVO 1.9 and Vitro 1.9 release candidates are now available on GitHub.  The standard install loads pre-built components  from the Maven Central Repository (http://search.maven.apache.org) For VIVO, https://github.com/vivo-project/VIVO/releases/tag/rel-1.9.0-rc1 and for Vitro, https://github.com/vivo-project/Vitro/releases/tag/rel-1.9.0-rc1.  See the Release Notes for what's new!  Testers welcome!

OpenVIVO is running rc1.  OpenVIVO (http://openvivo.org) has been updated.  It is running VIVO 1.9  One of the goals for OpenVIVO was to serve as a demonstration of new features in VIVO.  You can see the new capability map in action, as well as the other items addressed in the release notes.  Take a look at the notes and at OpenVIVO.  And if you haven't joined OpenVIVO, it's very easy – just log on with your ORCiD.  Don't have an ORCiD?  It's easy to get one – just sign up at http://orcid.org.  Just takes a minute of two.
