Welcome to the website of Linked Data for Production (LD4P). With support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, six partners (Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Library of Congress, Princeton, and Stanford University) are piloting the transition of technical services workflows to a linked data environment. Over a two-year period, the partners will focus on developing the ability to produce metadata as linked open data communally, extending the BIBFRAME ontology to encompass the many resource formats managed by libraries, and engaging the broader library community to ensure a sustainable and extensible environment. LD4P works closely with the Mellon-funded Linked Data for Libraries-Labs (LD4L-Labs) project.

Current activities of the LD4P partners as of February, 2017

Analysis and Modeling

At the end of 2016 the group, together with LD4L-Labs, completed many months of intense ontology work, evaluating BIBFRAME and developing recommendations for implementing and extending BIBFRAME. We are documenting the decisions that came out of the modeling effort, including application profiles and mappings; these outputs will be shared with the community in coming months.

The domain-specific ontology extension subgroups have been working on gathering requirements and use cases, evaluating existing ontologies and vocabularies, modeling extensions, and developing application profiles.

Tool Evaluation

Tool evaluation is underway, and we’ve started a Tool Registry. We are working closely with LD4L-Labs to define requirements for and provide feedback on a MARC-to-linked-data converter and on the VitroLib linked data editing tool.

Community Engagement

LD4P members have been speaking at several conferences in the library and semantic web world. In April of this year we will hold an invitational conference at Stanford University to present current work and discuss future directions.
