Introduction

The Grinder is an open source performance testing framework which is freely available to anyone from Sourceforge.net. Use of The Grinder was suggested by Sun Microsystems for use in the testing program they sponsored for the Fedora Repository. It was selected for use because tests may be written either in Jython/Python or Java. Using Jython for tests is easier for less skilled programmers and faster for highly experienced programmers. It provide full access to Java when needed but enables the use of a less demanding programming environment suitable for tests. The drawback is that you have to learn a little Python. The Grinder is well documented and has an active community.

Beginning Tests

Attached are the tests used on the Sun Microsystems storage testbed. These are very simple tests used to establish a baseline for Fedora Repository performance (please see the documentation of the Sun Performance Tests - under construction). Please note that localization is required for your testbed for these tests to work. Over the next few days I will be adding instructions but I wanted to get the test available as this is long overdue.
