Contribute to the DSpace Development Fund

The newly established DSpace Development Fund supports the development of new features prioritized by DSpace Governance. For a list of planned features see the fund wiki page.

In 2004, the DSpace teams from MIT and HP developed a strategy for supporting different versions of a digital bitstream in DSpace. By 'version' here we mean edition, reflecting changes to the intellectual content over time, as opposed to different formats of the same edition/version. So NOT multiple versions such as PDF and Word and TeX, but multiple versions such as PDF in fall of 2005, PDF in fall of 2006, and PDF in spring of 2006. The attached PDF is a record of our decisions. The basic approach is to require different items for different versions in time (for reasons of metadata integrity) and using metadata to links versions. This leads to some changes to DSpace, so far unimplemented, related to the submission workflow, the user interface, and the indexing subroutines. These are on our wishlist to implement, but it's a long list...
