Introduction

Sun Microsystems has been working closely with Fedora Commons to establish a set of baseline performance metrics for the Fedora Repository. Throughout 2009, Sun has provided both a dedicated testbed and engineering assistance. First results were published in July 2009 at Open Repositories 2009 and on Eric Reid's Blog. This testing is still ongoing so expect new results to be published as soon as they are available. Testing will be extended to include the Islandora software stack this fall.

The testbed is documented in detail below. All of the hardware was dedicated as well as the network to aid generating accurate results and aid in isolating bottlenecks. All of the servers were running Open Solaris except the load injector. Testing including a number of configurations using ZFS, Sun Storage 7000 appliances and JBOD storage.

Testing used only free available open source software. The Grinder was used for load injection and all of the tests are available from Fedora Commons.
