Goals

  • Create a domain definition for the VIVO ontology
  • Make an ontology change - that is expected to be no / low impact; e.g. spelling correction, additional class; doesn't involve a change in the VIVO software
  • Make an ontology change where there is a software change (preferably a small change)

How might we achieve the goals above?

Notes

Juliane - what's VIVO, the software or the ontology?
Mike - VIVO is (currently) used for both software and ontology.
Violeta - Criticism from academics, VIVO ontology doesn't have it's own presence
  • We need to give VIVO a proper home.

Mike - Why isn't there a microbiology module. Why is it in the ISF?

Mike - we need a method, a process for improving the ontology.

Mike - I found an error in one of the ontologies; in FAO there is an error in a URL.

  • Are you using the ontology from somebody else, or a fixed version?

Javed - I can make a list of things that I've seen that are not correct.

Brian - I like the tasks, but is it going far enough, or in the right direction? Without something else, we'll be in the same spot in a couple of years.

Mike - we want to surface the issues in making a change through doing it, and use that to define the process.

Tenile - Eagle-I has sites that are on a previous version of the software / ontology.
