Agenda

Notes

M1 Mac Chip and ARM Architecture Issues

Dragan discussed the ongoing issue with the M1 Mac chip and ARM architecture. He reminded that Georgy's proposed solution of updating the Argon Library seems to work for Milos Popovic machine, but not for Benjamin Gross, hence further investigation is needed. Dragan also asked if anyone else in the group is experiencing the same issue with running the Maven install with any Java machine on a Mac machine with M1 chip. Michael confirmed that they have an M1 Mac in their institution and are experiencing issues with creating local development environments using Docker. Dragan asked Michael to test the solution again and provide feedback.

The “I forgot my password” PR

Dragan will try to coordinate a collaborative task related to testing and validating the different languages used in the “I forgot my password” PR. Dragan suggested aligning the messages in English and reviewing their accuracy before testing the other languages. The team agreed to continue the discussion with a focus on aligning the messages in English and assigning language speakers to review the other languages. Ivan was tasked with sharing his screen to demonstrate a feature. Brian suggested some improvements of UI messages in English. Dragan suggested that Ivan align the English text, which had been reviewed and approved by Brian, and then align the Serbian text with the English version. After this, other members could check their respective languages. Ivan agreed to make the necessary changes to the PR. Dragan also planned to ask Anna and Jose to help with translations in Spanish and Portuguese, respectively.

Ivan and Dragan discussed a system that Ivan had developed to mitigate time-based attacks and improve the security of the password reset process. William asked whether creation of a lot of threads in the PR might be a vulnerability. Ivan explained that the system does not actually create new threads for each request, as it might seem, and that the delay in the system is configurable. They agreed that the thread sleep method used is not a significant issue.

The team also discussed a feedback form that Ivan had set up, and Brian suggested an improvement to it, by removing the link to the feedback form in the case it is not set up.

The team also discussed improving their Wiki documentation for technical matters. The next meeting was set for two Tuesdays later, as Dragan would not be available the following Tuesday.

Responsive wilma theme

Milos Popovic is working on this. The task is to align the Responsive Wilma theme PR with changes after merging Extended Search PR and to update Bootstrap 3 to Bootstrap 5.

The ABAC PR

Dragan confirmed the soft deadline for reviewing this PR is November 17th and encouraged team members to review PR. He also discussed the need for reviewing code and noted that Brian had provided some comments which were yet to be addressed. Dragan suggested that some discussions could be handled privately between Brian and Georgy, while more important matters could be discussed in larger meetings.

The next week meeting and AOB

Dragan announced his absence next week and suggested using a Slack message to initiate urgent discussions, if there is a need. Dragan will participate in the euroCRIS strategic meeting and in one presentation he will discuss alignment of the VIVO ontology with reforming research assessment in accordance with the CoARA agreement.

Dragan reminded that the Extended search and I forgot my password features should be documented in wiki pages at some moment.
