The VIVO project was funded from September, 2009 through August, 2012 by a major grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health, entitled "VIVO: Enabling National Networking of Scientists."  The VIVO community expanded during this project to many institutions beyond the seven originally funded by NIH including a number outside the United States.
