New Leadership Groups are formed annually, every Julywith the process completed by July 1 each year. Leadership Group members serve for one year, from July through the following June. The Leadership Group consists of representatives from VIVO member institutions, as well as three community-at-large members.

Three community-at-large members of the steering group Leadership Group can be nominated by anyone affiliated with any VIVO member institution, and self-nominations are accepted. At least four nominations must be received. If less than four nominations are received, nominations will remain open.
