As DuraSpace staff join community members everywhere in celebrating summer holidays we want to provide you with an update you on current and ongoing initiatives.
We are focused on ongoing strategic initiatives, including:
Making terrific headway on our annual membership campaign. Overall, DuraSpace achieved 85% of its membership goals to date. We look forward to keeping that momentum going as we continue our campaign between now and October.
Working with TU Berlin to create the first consortial membership: we are very pleased to welcome 24 German Institutions to the DSpace community, and we are absolutely sure that their contribution and participation will help DSpace achieve the important goals of the coming year! (should we add a special thank to Pascal Becker from TU Berlin who coordinated this effort on the German side?) Yes
Continuing our international outreach initiatives with a tremendous event in Lima, Peru where about 300 representatives from all Peruvian universities attended a DSpace Workshop (delivered in collaboration with Joan Caparros from CSUC, the Catalan Consortium of Universities), the first one in the Country and the most attended in the DSpace history. The event was hosted by CONCYTEC, the Peruvian Council for Science and Technological Information, as a pre-conference event during their National Conference on Research Information. The conference, with more than 500 attendees, was a great opportunity for DuraSpace to meet with the Peruvian community of users, to listen to and learn what are their needs and expectations. A the same time it was an important event to strengthen our international collaboration with other organizations such as euroCRIS, COAR, ORCID, LA Referentia, which all presented their views and activities related to the research information and scholarly ecosystem, as well as our Providers active in the Region. Electing new leadership groups and facilitating development sprints for DSpace, Fedora and VIVO.
Providing open project consulting to groups such as the ARKs-in-the-Open project, which recently held its inaugural advisory group meeting to kick-off a new community management approach.
As we continue to work on these initiatives and new emerging opportunities, DuraSpace staff and board members remain grateful for our community’s financial support, and for their engagement in our work to provide enduring access to the world’s digital heritage.

Thank you to each of our renewing DuraSpace members for your continued support. You each have joined DuraSpace in the vital effort to provide technical leadership, strategic planning, community outreach, software release coordination, and marketing and communications to the DSpace, Fedora and VIVO open source projects. With the 2018-19 membership campaign only 2 months old here's where we are towards meeting the goals by project:
Total: $903,500; 141 unique members; 79% of goal
- DSpace: $208,417; 53 members; 81% of goal
- Fedora: $456,667; 62 members; 80% of goal
- VIVO: $147,416; 19 members; 71% of goal
- General: $91,000; 19 members ; 87% of goal
