Please note the distinction between Semantic Web technologies, and Semantic Technologies, as described in this Cambridge Semantics article. The VIVO project implements a number on W3C Semantic Web technology standards including RDF, OWL and SPARQL. The objective of this section is to share external information and resources regarding Semantic Web technology with beginners as well as active community members, and to address both technical and non-technical concerns.

It is also possible that the domain of Semantic Technologies, such as Natural-language processing (NLP) and data mining, will be of interest to VIVO developers and implementation teams. This domain addresses technical challenges faced by Semantic Web implementations attempting to integrate large amounts of information from existing, data sources that aren't already Linked Data. This section might be expanded in the future to share information about this domain.
