Notes

Leadership Group Elections update

  • We’re in the midst of Leadership Group elections. The bronze members elected Christian Hauschke as their representative. Congrats to Christian! And thanks for agreeing to serve on the group again this year.
  • Nominations are now open for three community members. Anyone affiliated with a VIVO member institution can nominate anyone to serve on the LG. So that’s all of you! I hope you’ll all submit your nominations for three community members on the Google Form linked from the agenda.

Julia I’m glad that we are joined by Robert Miller and Laurie Arp from LYRASIS discussion on the topics listed. We will go around after and give everyone a minutes or two for questions or comments if you’d like.

Financial reporting formats from LYRASIS

  • Erin: There will be a change in the financial reports and we’ll be using the VIVO Proforma Balance Sheet which is a comprehensive look at the finances including total assets and liabilities. More to the GAP standard. Erin will send this to Julia and Mike – more orientation is coming soon.

Transitioning the VIVO MOU

  • Erin: Lyrasis’ financial year is January 1 – December 31. So we will need to adjust this year’s MOU and the LYRASIS lawyer has put an agreement in place as a first step, which Erin will send to Julia and Mike.

Hopes for the organizational home relationship with the project

  • Robert: I am excited and interested to learn about a new community – we are using the merger to look at everything with fresh eyes to see what can be improved.
  • Erin: Laurie is working on an event in early July for staff to meet and introduce the projects.

Questions and comments for Robert, Laurie and Erin?

Paul Albert: people who understand both organizations should think about how to cross-pollinate:

Erin: we need to think more in terms of training and workshops as part of new initiatives as well as new development.

Robert Cartolano: Erin and Robert have put a lot of work into this merger. The Board has been very involved. Remember that more R&D funding presents more opportunities for VIVO.

Mike Conlon: I am very excited about economies of scale, and I am excited about the new CRM system and practices.

Tom Cramer: How did the ORCiD US Community come in? Erin: You might want to follow up with Celeste Feather, Senior Director of Licensing and Strategic Partnerships. Chat question: there are 28 engineers across LYR? that’s more than I would have guessed and indicates a lot more may be happening at LYR than we are aware. I would appreciate some map or intro of LYR projects, staff and services, just for orientation.

Anna Guillaumet: Sorry, I can’t hear well. Erin: we will follow up with you to make sure you get your questions asked.

Christian Hauschke: Is there a culture of service providers at LYRASIS? Do you have experience with transatlantic grant proposals? Robert: this is an area of interest for me.

Doug Hahn: No questions!

Violeta Ilik: How can we help you understand VIVO:

Dong Joon (DJ) Lee: No questions but looking forward to seeing new opportunities.

Steve McCauley: I am new on the call so I am primarily listening.

hannah sommers: I’m excited about the partnership (as a member of both organizations) and thinking together about how we can grow and diversify VIVO’s community base.

Julia Trimmer: What is the transition timeframe?

Terrie Wheeler: I see a lot of opportunities with LYRASIS. I think we need a smaller/easier VIVO for small libraries.

Chat discussion:

Christian: Short question: It's the US consortium at Lyrasis, or is there more?

Andrew: https://www.lyrasis.org/Leadership/Pages/orcid-us.aspx

Erin: Christian, there are other ORCiD consortiums. For example, I know there is one is Australia and Canada and in other jurisdictions

Christian: Yes, I wondered because the TIB (my institution) leads the German ORCID consortium.

Erin: LYRASIS is the home of the US Consortium and they have a coordinator on staff at LYRASIS names Sheila Rabun. She’s awesome.

Andrew: Do the various national ORCiD consortia collaborate?

Erin: I think they do. The Orcid annual meeting invites consortia leads to attend and collaborate. I think Michele attended last year. He and Sheila would know more.
