User Scenarios

If you have not already done so, please take about 30 minutes to go through the user scenarios and rate each for importance and priority. Your input is vital as we determine how best to improve VIVO. You can provide your input at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/userscenarios through the end of the week.

Team Meeting on August 11

We will have an all team meeting on August 11. Curt Cole of Weill Cornell Medical College has graciously agreed to host the meeting as well as plan the agenda. This meeting will serve as the one year meeting for the VIVO Project. The actual one year anniversary is September 25 – we are using the opportunity afforded by the national conference to hold our meeting with the maximum number of face to face attendees – we will also be live with team members across the country via GoToMeeting Webinar (no video!). If you have ideas about the team meeting, please drop a note to Curt. If you are coming to the national conference, please plan to attend the all team meeting on the 10th.

GoToWebinar

VIVO now has a new GotoMeeting capability – GoToWebinar. GoToWebinar can host up to 100 registered users. You do not need to use this new capability. If you are hosting your meetings with existing resources and these are adequate for your purpose, please continue conducting your meetings as you do now. If you have need for improved webinar capabilities, please consider GoToWebinar. For more information, please see the GoToMeeting web site http://www.gotomeeting.com To use GoToWebinar, please contact Val Davis.

Register now for the National Conference

If you attending the national conference please go ahead with registration and travel planning. Registration is open and we have quite a few registrants. Some folks think we will sell out, so it is best to register early.

Outreach Organization

We are making some changes to our Outreach organization in response to personnel changes and the evolving needs of the project. I’m pleased to have Kristi Holmes of Washington University School of Medicine assuming the role of national Outreach lead. She has an incredibly strong group of team leads working with her.

Elly Cramer of Cornell will lead the Adoption and Collaboration team. Elly will continue to serve on the national team lead calls. Adoption and Collaboration will coordinate demos, handle web site inquiries, the user forum and route information requests.

Elly will also lead the Web Team, tasked with maintaining www.vivoweb.org, including look and feel, technical support and content. Finally, Elly will represent development on the outreach team calls. Please welcome Elly to these new roles.

Sara Henning of UF will lead the Marketing team, continuing the strong work there on branding, positioning, and materials.

Val Davis of UF will lead a new team (old function, but new team), the VIVO Speakers Bureau. This group will identify conferences and other events at which VIVO team members might speak. The team will also identify appropriate speakers and assist with abstracts and deadlines. Val will also continue her role as national Implementation Lead.

Erin Brooks of UF will lead a new Education team, responsible for all VIVO educational materials for all audiences and roles (developers, implementers, ontologists, adopters, faculty), regardless of format (documents, web pages, videos, presentations). This new team will bring together the great effort we have across the project to create educational materials in support of VIVO. Erin will need a lot of help from all of our subject matter experts – and we have such a large number of them – working across the project, to assist with the creation of materials.

The national conference planning groups will continue as is. As a reminder, Kristi is the program chair, and I am serving as the conference chair.

I have asked Paula Markes to join the outreach meeting to represent Ontology and insure we have good cross team communication between Ontology and Outreach. Val will insure cross communication with Implementation. Elly will insure cross team communication between Outreach and Development.
Finally, Kristi will get the group together and chair meetings. It is a lively and creative group. I will sit in from time to time.

Please welcome all these folks to their new roles. If you have questions about the teams, the work, and/or your role in these activities, please ask me or Kristi. We’ll have each group clarify its members, write a simple purpose statement and further organize its materials in the Wiki.
I deeply appreciate everyone’s patience and willingness to participate and lead as we work through these changes.
