One year of VIVO Notes

VIVO Notes was launched on March 3, 2010. This 13th edition of VIVO Notes marks a one year anniversary!

VIVO Conference August 23-26, Save the Dates!

I look forward to spending time with each of you at the Second Annual VIVO Conference. Please save the dates on your calendar (August 23 – 26). It will be a wonderful opportunity for our amazing team to connect with each other before the end of year2.

August 23rd is the all team meeting. Please plan to attend. August 24 is a full day of workshops. Please consider presenting or assisting. August 25 and 26 will be two days of posters, presentations and fellowship.

The Second Annual VIVO Conference web site is “live” and registration opens soon. See the announcement banner at http://vivoweb.org. A direct link to the conference web site is http://vivoweb.org/conference. Please assist people by directing them to this web site. Please use this web site address in all your communication about the conference.

Promotional materials for the conference include a flyer, postcard and PowerPoint slides – all are available for download on the following page in the Confluence Wiki: https://confluence.cornell.edu/display/ennsrd/2011+VIVO+Conference

If you are presenting at an upcoming conference or meeting, please help promote the conference by printing postcards to handout and including the PowerPoint slides at the end of your talk.

Organizational Changes

I hoped you enjoyed the 18 month meeting. I hope we all learned a lot and are better positioned to take on the challenges of the next six months. At the meeting, there was a question that should be answered here. Concern was expressed over leadership for education, marketing and national implementation. I have made some organizational changes as a result of personnel changes.

Marketing activities are well in hand. Michele Tennant is managing the speakers bureau. We have more VIVO talks on more conference agendas than ever. Congratulations to Michele and all the folks who recommend venues for VIVO presentations and help prepare abstract, posters and presentation. We have a VIVO booth! The VIVO booth was used at the recent AAAS conference and will be used at the upcoming Science of Team Science Conference at Northwestern in April. Branding materials for the conference and the booth have been produced by Sara Henning, who now serves as a consultant to our project. Marketing is in good hands.

The broad array of VIVO support materials are produced by many team members. Kristi, Elly and I have met to discuss the needs for materials. We will not have an “educational lead”. We do have a need for a VIVO cataloger to organize materials produced by team members and locate materials for team members. We expect to have someone in this role shortly.

We do not have a National Implementation Lead. The VIVO consortium schools are making very good progress on their own and discuss their progress with each other. Additional schools are using the VIVO Open Source Community site and having their questions answered there. I do feel that more support is needed for this process and UF will add another person to assist with community building.

    Infomaki

Infomaki is a cool little tool for assessing feedback on web sites and web applications from the users of those sites. Cornell is using Infomaki on its VIVO home page. See http://vivo.cornell.edu – the box in the upper right was produced with Infomaki. You can answer question about VIVO and then choose whether you want to answer another. It takes just a few seconds. Give it a try! If you are interested in the technology, you can learn more about Infomaki on SourceForge at http://infomaki.sourceforge.net

VIVO Open Source Community

The VIVO SourceForge site has undergone a significant facelift. The wiki contains significant information about VIVO software, Harvester, implementation and more. As VIVO continues to mature as a sustainable open source, open community effort, much more material will be available here. If you haven’t been to the site, please take a few moments to visit VIVO at SourceForge.

Ideas for VIVO Notes?

Is there an idea that you would like to see developed in VIVO Notes? Do you have questions or concerns that might best be clarified here? Please drop me a note.
